WHOAH! Legend of Zelda! I never thought of that! That said, you're probably right, and it's just a massive red-herring.
And about Eden: Even so, you did 50% damage to him. That's damned impressive. Two people doing exactly what you're doing should be able to kill him. Three or four people doing that should slaughter him.

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
I would really like to hear a dev about my ideas to see if we're getting somewhere with them.
I really hope that I'm on the right track with all my ideas about the note.
And for Eden, it may sound weird but I did it with my lvl 99 Oracle. I blinded him gave me my buffs and attacked lol but I think the whole fight was bugged cause i somehow ignored most of his armor for some reason.

Devs are basically never active. That said, give them two or three days and someone should show up. Question is how much that person feels like trolling us at the time.

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
Actually, I'm online on a daily basis, but I never feel compelled to write answers.
Loz is not involved in the quest in any way. Loz himself is part of an easter egg - there are other children named Kadaj and Yazoo in the map too but they serve no purpose.
I try to refrain from giving you hints on the note, partly because I want to see and learn how long it would take people to find something like this out. It's not impossible it just requires loads and loads of creativity and knowledge of FFX.

Good that I've been overplaying FFX these daysKarifean wrote:. It's not impossible it just requires loads and loads of creativity and knowledge of FFX.
And for Loz I thought about him because he's more hidden than the other two children.
Well whatever now I have to think about FFX riddles, like the ones for the Celestial Weapons. Something like the Cactor one or even like one of the temples.
I could also think that you are reffering to the Omega Ruins where you have no clue what there is because of the missing map.^^
I'm off replaying it/thinking of the puzzles.

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
I'm checking the forum every now and then.
So we got a new hint that the solution is somewhere in FFX, too bad I only played the old ones (still don't think there's a good ps2 emulator out there, isn't it right?).
I'll still try google to see if i can get something during the holidays but I'm too busy atm.

I think that pcsx2 is pretty decent. I think I tried it once and it didn't have any problem at the beginning of the game.

GREETINGS!
*Ahem.* Sorry about that, occasionally I decide not to restrain myself. I've read this entire thread, and I would like to join in the hunt for Odin. Also, I'd love to find others to play this with, 'cause it's boring as hell playing alone all the time...And it really sucks that a big part of the hint is from FFX, 'cause I quit playing FFs after IX. I've played I, all the way through IX. However, I've only ever beaten I through VII. FF V was a good guess, but I was pretty deep into that one for a year or three, not sure which anymore o.o But I can say it's not in there, there's nothing that cryptic in it.
I had typed up another sentence here but opted not to, just so I don't wind up spoiling anything from past FFs for the younger group on here. I'm 26 years old, I've been playing games since before I was 2, so I have a fair bit of experience with them. However, I'm NOWHERE near the levels you people are..1,600 is nuts, even though I'm something of an RPG fanatic myself (Last time I looked I was at level 377.) Infact, FF II (for the SNES) was the reason I taught myself to read at about four and a half years old.
I actually found this forum by accident, I was just looking to see if 0.9.2 was the most recent version (apparently it is.) So, if anyone would ever like to join me for a game just let me know, I go by Kain_Xinth on there, just like this handle. Hopefully we can set some games up, I think it'd be a blast playing this with others. I did once, but that was around three years ago when it first came out. Somebody hosted it on Battle.net and I drooled slightly as I played it for the first time.
Uh, sorry for going so far off topic..I kinda figured that'd happen with my first post though. Also, thank you mafab for summarizing what was said about this, it makes it considerably easier to try and think this through when you have the basic pertinent information accessible. Also, I would like to say that's a good idea Zerg, about removing the Os and putting in L and Z. But I must admit to being very poor with cyphers and the like. They were never my strong suit, I was always better with memory based challenges.
I would also like to mention something very curious..Whenever I load FF E RPG and talk to Frakir, Eden somehow instantly dies without me doing anything..? I didn't even know that Eden was a boss 'til I was reading around on here. Maybe I got a (slightly) corrupted file from one of the map distribution sites?
Kain.
(P.S. It's actually spelt Sleipnir, I'm kind of a mythology buff. There're legends about a huge blue Sapphire, said to be on a gold necklace. It's claimed to be the Eye of Odin, and this seems to be supported by legends about Odin traveling around as an old man with only one eye. And, for the most part, nothing really mentions WHICH eye it is he lost.)

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
Whoah, nice wall you got there.
Firstly, about levelling... Once you have an ultimate master or two, and a couple more masters, you level really fast. The health and damage boosts are just awesome. So you'll probably blast from about 500 to 1600. (If you plan well from the beginning, you can reach this point at an earlier level, eg. 15 on all mages to max Sorc - roughly level 235.)
Hold up, I didn't say anything about adding Ls and Zs. (Get to the LZ! >_>) I was saying drop all three of them. In any case, it's already known to be a no-go.
Ok... Start game, load code, talk to Frakir, Eden dies. Colour? Any other important steps? I want to recreate this, and I'd like to control the test, to help pin it down.

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
Actually, that happened when I first started, no load code or anything. I was curious if anything changed so I went around talking to everyone and it seemed like immediately after talking to Frakir it said "Eden has been defeated!" Although it could've been an hour or two for all I know..I normally have an impeccable sense of time, but you sit me down in front of a game and I lose all track of it. But seriously, I'm pretty sure it was instantaneous, and if it wasn't it was definitely within a few minutes' time. I didn't play with any of the commands or anything, I just went around randomly talking to anyone who had an exclamation point over their head.
I've already got Sorcerer ultimately mastered, was working on Holy Knight next. Figured I'd work my way down after the two easy classes were taken care of (I say easy, 'cause you can just wander Lothlorien's forest and slaughter your way through it a couple times for an hour or two and practically be done.) And yes, I usually wind up having a lot to say. Not quite sure why..But I type at about 120 words per minute so it's really easy to write a short story lol. If you're free right now Zerg I'll be up for about another two hours if you'd like to get a game in? Just check my profile for some contact information, and if you don't have either of those just PM me what you do have and I'll download it.

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
I found a letter puzzle that might just work...
stason[DOT]org/TULARC/games/final-fantasy/4-5-10-Final-Fantasy-VII-I-m-in-the-Shinra-HQ-How-do-I-s[DOT]html
Its a letter puzzle having to do with finding a certain code in names of books, using the starting letters of words, and counting into other words to find that letter to make the phrase.
And since Reno, A member of shinra, from the same game, is in here, and seems to do nothing, maybe he has to do with the hint?
(And yes, I made an account just to post this )
EDIT:There is also a fishing bottles quest in FFXII, where you replace the letter in the phrase with the next letter in the alphabet. For instance:
CDZCKZMCRANZS
C=D, D=E, Z=A, and so forth, spelling DEAD LANDS BOAT
[strike]
EDIT:Ok scratch that x.x Doesnt work xD unless it has to do with the missing letters, like I think I saw someone say.
Theres a puzzle for finding a password in FFX, where you take every other letter from each phrase, and combine them,
EDIT:Ok that one doesnt seem to work either...

[strike]
- Spoiler:
- This is how to complete the fishing minigame bottles. Blue Bottle Clue: Truth lies just beyondfalsehood,CDZCKZMCRANZS this means that the next letter in the alphabet is what you put in. Next letter after C = D, next letter of D = E, next letter of Z = A and so on until you get Deadlands Boat. Go the Echos of the Past and look at the south-east corner where you will find a message in the boat. Green Bottle Clue: Skip on stones to far banks shore, by skipping stones return once more. SSADLNIAKLADHAUETDNREA this means start at S and skip between letters like S then A then L and will inventually spell Salika Hut Near Deadlands.Go to the centre of Piebald Path and in one hut.Red Bottle Clue: Foothills rise in mountains' shadow. NhIiQsTUrEe this on ehas the capitals scrambled in to a word and the lowercase scrambled into a word. It makes QUIET shrine. Go the the north-west part of the babbling vale to find the message. Yellow Bottle Clue: Dragons stir among the eaters of the wind. 1 2 - - 5 - 7 - 9 - means in the windmills in Cerobi Steppe. The windmills have numbers on them reffering to the message. Go turn on numbers 12579
and turn off the other numbers as well as the blanks. Black Bottle Clue: Easy as a, b, c, so count yourself lucky.
19-12-21-9-3-5-7-1-20-5-18-1-20-19 this means write down the letters of the alphabet and reffer them to the numbers. They spell SULICE GATE RATS. Look for the rats scurring around the south of the room and follow them to a shiny object which is the last message. River...unde...o
Forest...rgro...w Fire...undb...h
Ash...ridg...e Darkness...eton..e The first five words can be used to determine order, since they're complete, and ultimately unrelated to the location clue. Now a River flows through the Forest, which catches Fire, leaving behind only Ash and DarknessNow then, arranging the messages in that order to connect the middle, then end portions of the clues leaves you with the following:unde/rgro/undb/ridg/eton followed by o/w/h/e/e. This last part is missing a letter, which makes it a little cryptic, but if you put it all together, you should end up with the clue underground bridge to no where. Now
where have you seen a bridge underground the doesn't really go anywhere? But of course, Barheim Passage. Head into Barheim, following the same path you did to reach Zalera. When you reach the end of the Zeviah Span, go ahead into West Annex, then stop immediately. If you look on your map there is a little section of Zeviah Span that can only be reached by going into West Annex. So hang a U-turn, but make sure you're going into the area slightly to your left, back on the main part of the bridge and not the part you just left. Now simply approach the rubble at the far end and watch the magic happen. Now you know why you had to beat Gilgamesh first. With the Matamune safely in hand, head back to the Estersand and Ruksel. Select the Upstream area and start fishing up a storm. After what sometimes seemed like an eternity and innumerable perfects, you are finally rewarded with the Cactoid Compact. This item allows you to access the Hidden Shoals
area, and you're now only one step from the big one. Hidden Shoals
The commands here aren't all that different from those of upstream (in fact, some are the same). What makes it more difficult in my opinion is
the appearance of an additional cactoid each time you input a command correctly. These things will always be in the corner of your vision, and will
distract and annoy the crap out of you. Once you learn to ignore them though, the area is pretty easy, and you simply have to keep getting perfects until you receive the Cactoid Commendation. This bad boy opens up the Den of the River Lord.
Den of the River Lord This is it. The fish depicted in every drunken fishing story since the beginning of time. The King of Nebra has an eight-button long command that is difficult to complete when it appears side to side, and nearly impossible from the top or bottom. In addition to this, you have to catch him nine times before you can land him and reap your well-earned reward. However, the upswing of this is that you don't have to catch him in one trip, or even get all nine in a row. Also, in my game his command has always been the only one to appear until I get him for the ninth time, so at least I know what's coming. I'll go ahead and post his command, since it's better to just memorize and practice putting it in quickly. When you finally do land him, you get the Lu Shang's Badge, the ultimate reward for this lengthy side quest.
King of Nebra:
R1, L2, Up, Square, R2, L1, X, Right
EDIT:Ok scratch that x.x Doesnt work xD unless it has to do with the missing letters, like I think I saw someone say.
Theres a puzzle for finding a password in FFX, where you take every other letter from each phrase, and combine them,
- Spoiler:
- Besaid Riddle:
On a blue plaque near where Kimahri pounces Tidus on the ruins between the village and harbor:
Kilika and Bikanel / join as one.
This refers to two Al Bhed inscriptions which must be COMBINED to get a password. Kilika's inscription is just north of the save sphere in the woods. Bikanel's is in the Central Desert.
Here's the two ciphers, once you translate them from Al Bhed to English:
Kilika
t e p s w r s
V C O I U Bikanel
h a s o d i
I T R O S
Solution: Take first letter from Kilika: "t" second letter from Bikanel: "h" third letter from Kilika: "e" and keep alternating, Kilika, Bikanel, Kilka, Bikanel, until you spell out something. Do same with bottom line.
This gives you a great Targe for Rikku. (Still stuck? PASSWORD is: VICTORIOUS)
EDIT:Ok that one doesnt seem to work either...

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
Hold it, back on page 2, Karifean's entry, he mentions a few big hints...
Perhaps it relates to what is the most likely line of dialogue referenced in the beginning: "Did you know Odin's magical horse is called Slepnir?" (Is that exactly how it's worded? I should go look it up.) This has... Four Ls in it.
The very next post starts on the note this one ends on:Karifean wrote:
Thirdly, there is exactly one line of dialogue in the entire map that gives a hint on the note. No NPC that talks in a cutscene will be of any help.
And finally, none of the languages listed above will be of use for decrypting the note. It is deciphered the same way as something else in the FF series, however, and I hadn't played FFXIII yet when I made this quest. The only thing posted that is a far-fetched hint is that a certain letter does not appear in the text.
Karifean says "a certain letter". Of those, I note precisely one of them appears in "Slepnir". Since none are in Odin, I think perhaps that's a good base to go from. Perhaps L being the second letter means we have an off-set for something.Flameseeker wrote:Never noticed till now the missing letters but it seems they're important somehow.

Karifean wrote:. It's not impossible it just requires loads and loads of creativity and knowledge of FFX.
So he mentions this, which narrows down the amount of possibilities, and marks out my first two guesses anyways xP
I was wondering what all the Slepnir talk was, but now I see the line xP
Maybe it has to do with the number of his legs, as I heard mentioned before. In each game it changes, from four, to six, to eight.
Additionally, Sleipnir is mentioned in a riddle found in the 13th century legendary saga Hervarar saga ok Heiðreks, in the 13th century legendary saga Völsunga saga as the ancestor of the horse Grani, and book I of Gesta Danorum, written in the 12th century by Saxo Grammaticus, contains an episode considered by many scholars to involve Sleipnir. Sleipnir is generally accepted as depicted on two 8th century Gotlandic image stones; the Tjängvide image stone and the Ardre VIII image stone.
maybe this riddle could have something to do with the answer as well

Hmm.. So perhaps my idea about the L is irrelevant, since I mentioned the V and X being not in it a while ago, and you've since said FFX. It seems I was right there, but we never took it far enough to work it out back then.
Also I'm thinking that riddle won't be relevant, especially after what Karif just said. Perhaps the objective is just get our hands on FFX and work through it.
(... The note is back again. That trolling signature.)

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
It msut not be a well known puzzle, I went through all the hint sites for the games, and none of the major puzzle guides help. So it has to be something small, something simple in the game that didnt really require help... Though most likely the game had more context and hints to help you solve it easily. I own FFX, I'll have to load it up tomorrow and play for a bit and see if I can figure it out :3

has anybody checked the Al Bhed language? Morso, if it's a simple replacement algorithm, I can write a java program that will show us all possible answers.

Yes, we've checked Al Bhed. More than once, I believe.
As for the substitution, you reckon you could get it to loop through, and print out, every single letter replacement algorithm? 'Cause there would be LOTS of those. 26!, I believe. Or, 403291461126605635584000000. Even at 30 prints/second, that'd take ages... Still, if it solves it...

A computer can print way more than just 30lines per second, and the amount of possible substitutions is propably 25! or 26! but I doubt trying something like that would get you anywhere.

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
Er, yeah. I wasn't thinking when I did that estimate. However, humans can't really process lines that fast. Admittedly we don't have to get it exact, we can just find anything that's close enough... Possibly could do something with only try certain combinations that are wildly different, then trim unlikely results and keep going.
Well, the text on the note means *something*, right? And since it's written in English letters, a substitution should give us something. Unless the message is in another alphabet and this is the direct pronunciation of that...

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
There are not 26!, there are 26.... assuming it's a Cesear cipher.
BTW, that set of line's is Kari's sig from another forum...
Random question, where is the last exotic stone located?

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
(Which one do you define as the last one?)
It's not a Caesar cipher. We tried that too.
And yeah, Karif keeps putting the note in his signature. Hence why I made comment on it being there recently. (If you didn't know, that text is written on the "mysterious note" item.)

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
Ok, so here is some thoughts. Zack, or somebody named Zack is in the game. Zack has spiky hair, and the original buster sword.
Next. Some chinese website says there are 5 stones:
A.
Water Stone: -> Water Materia
Two
Sealaga.
3.
Shock to Stone:
Earthquake stone
4.
Boco Stone:
5
Odin Stone:
Belong to summon Stone, called Odin out.
Fundamental even Odin long Sha Yangzi not know, I really can not describe this one ...
Is said to overthrow Odin team can get.
Summon Odin, the god of the north, the Divine Eudemons
Enemy of zantetsuken: can be easily cut into shreds

So yeah... stone number 5 is not any of the others...

Re: Finding Odin! (Remade!)
I don't think Zack will be relevant. More likely he's planned to be part of another quest.

Alright, back.
Now... I don't know what you're doing with those stones. What exactly does the site say/which of it is converted to FFERPG? Where did zantetsuken come from? Is he related to Odin, or just Chinese mythos?
